With winter in full swing and Chicago looking more and more like the arctic tundra, avoiding hat hair is essential. Here are a few tricks from Michael Jacobson to get you from home to the El to the office without sacrificing good looks:
For longer hair, put two or three large rollers in your hair, and cover with your hat. When you reach your destination, make your way to the ladies room, remove hat, and fluff hair. This trick will keep the hair from getting matted down under your hat.
Another option is to simply put hair into a loose pony tail at the crown of the head, and tuck under your hat. When you take your hat off, shake pony tail out with your fingers.
For short hair, carry a small amount of pomade or light moisture-based pomade spray (I recommend Shinbi Spice Soft Wax or Prive Finishing Texture Spray) in your bag. Apply to hair and fluff when your hat is removed.
These products are also great for eliminating static on all hair lengths and styles.
